Raster files can contain many pages. A raster file with many pages is called a Multi-page file and can be handled by Orbit Front. Orbit Front however only displays one page at the time. When your current record has a Multi-page file the Multi-page browser toolbar will automatically be shown. You can use this toolbar to navigate through your pages. The arrows will take you to next or previous page. By selecting from the list you can move directly to a specific page.
Compound Files: Working with Multi File Records
In some cases a single file is not sufficient to specify a document. One good example is Hybrid files, in which the document contains raster data, vector data and reference data. On the HDD this information is kept in 3 separate files. To work with the document it is required that all 3 files present. Another good example is a document under revision containing redlining information. The document consists of 2 files, one for the original document and one for the redlining information.
To store files of different formats in the database, Orbit uses a proprietary file format called compound files. When Orbit works on a compound file, it first decodes the compound file to a temporary directory. This directory will hold all the files that were originally put into the compound file.
When displaying compound files in Orbit Front, one file is displayed at the time, but as for multi-page raster files, you can browse from one file to another by means of the compound file navigator toolbar.
Once the individual files are displayed, they work pretty much the same as any other files in your Orbit archive. The only significant difference is when launching external tools.
